The Genie is an accurate and dynamic portrait of DNA, 3 billion times larger than life. It takes the form of a 13m long, light-weight, spiralling lantern, suspended above the viewers and lit from within by 320 LEDs. This light sculpture translates genomic data into strings of scrolling colours and soundscapes, playing with the idea of what is abstract.
It connects us to what is at the heart of all of known nature - DNA. It has the same geometry and behaviour in a fly, grasses, or in us. It is the thread that connects all of life - it stores the plans. The Genie gives us a glimpse into that unseeable reality, allowing us to imagine life and nature at a vastly different level.
